Ella & Ríodhna's World

My name is Ella. This used to be my blog. Then when I was 2 years, 5 months and 1 week old, I got a little sister called Ríodhna. I love my sister so now we're sharing our blog. Welcome to our world...

It's my party

it's my party

Yes, I hosted my first party on Saturday because it was my Christening. I let Ella help but it was my day really. We went to the church where I was very good indeed. The priest poured water over my head. Some babies cry at this bit but I like getting my hair washed and the water wasn't that cold so I didn't. Mammy held me and then Uncle Jamie dried my hair afterwards. He's my godfather now and Auntie Emma is my fairy godmother. Daddy had to light a candle too. Ella helped him with that bit.
The cake
We had lots of friends and family there and afterwards we all went to a very strange place with a great big shiny table where everyone sat around and some men with funny hats on cooked some food and did a lot of tricking around. Mostly it was all adults but Caoimhe, Ronan, Alex and Grace were there too. And some of my aunties and cousins were missing - I'll have to go to see them soon. Everyone seemed to eat lots of food and have some fizzy drinks and some not fizzy ones. Then Ella cut my cake and gave everyone some of that too. And what did I get. Just milk. That's all I ever get.
No, we won't all look the same direction

When I last wrote here I had been sleeping for a long time at night. But now this tooth and this cold are annoying me and I'm feeling very hungry these days too so I've decided to go back to waking my mammy up at least once in the middle of the night for an extra feed and I grab some extra evening ones too when I can. It's good to keep her on her toes like that just when she thought I had settled into a routine of sleeping through the night or just having one dream feed.

is this to stop me running around?
Uncle Ross went to Kosovo today. He's going to work over there for 6 months so we'll all miss him and his spontaneous babysitting a lot. He's going to read my blog though... I mean our blog (sorry Ella)

Vergemount's next top model pose

Mammy thinks there's something a bit Kate Moss about this pose. Of course when I grow up to be 5ft 2 there will be no modelling career and I don't think she'll be encouraging me down that path even if I am a natural poser. I also have the model-like fussiness over food and I try never to finish what's on my plate. I know I don't get this from my Mammy or my Daddy but they think it's no harm that I don't stuff myself!

As you can see, we visit my house quite a lot these days. It's better fun with Daddy than with Mammy because there's always plenty of time for splashing through puddles while he photographs every detail to look at later. I'm getting great use out of my wellies. It's very important that I'm there though - who would mind his camera bag if I wasn't. I'm getting a bit more input into which clothes I wear now so the colour combinations are getting more adventurous.

Having a laugh before bed
Ríodhna says:
I'm getting great value out of my playmat. Mammy has bought me more toys to go on it so I have different things to look at and of course, when I let Ella play on it with me, there's always plenty to look at and laugh at. I've been for my second swim, in a different pool, called Riverview, which is nicer than the first one. My friend Peter came too. We swam up and down the big pool until he got a little bit cold and then we went to the warm baby pool for another splash. There was no time for taking photos as our Mammies were busy holding us and taking turn getting ready themselves.

Happy, even with a cold
I have to have a break from the pool for a couple of days now because I have a cold in my nose. Its yucky, specially when I wake up from a sleep. Mammy is putting smelly things in the bedroom to help me clear it and squirting me with water. I hope it doesn't last long. I think I got it because she doesn't know what clothes to put on me in this weather - it has rained every day for about half my life now but some days it's cold too and others it;s still quite warm.

No sign of that tooth yet. The talking practice is going well and I have a lovely laugh. I'll get Mammy to take some video so you can hear it.. Nana Kathleen is coming tomorrow.

Over to me...

Yes, it's friday

I can laugh with delight when my Daddy throws me in the air or when my Mammy bounces me on her knee or plays other games with me.

What else have I been doing for the past 4 months? Well I'm getting strong. When I'm lying on the ground I do ab crunches - I can lift my head and my feet off the ground at the same time.
A poor substitute for sleeping on Daddy
If I have some nice hands holding mine, I like to be pulled up from lying down to sitting and then even up to standing although they don't let me put weight on my little legs just yet. By the way - my legs aren't little at all - I have fab chubby thighs.

I've been drooling a lot for the last few weeks and chewing on fingers or anything else that i can get into my mouth. Mammy and Ella think I'm growing some teeth. But I've been very good. I hardly cry at all. It's a good trick because it means when I do cry, everyone jumps to attention very fast. Daddy says he only heard me cry about 3 times in the first 3 months.
Bubbles in Mammó's back garden

I've had some busy times so far. I visited my Mammo with my whole family and the dogs last weekend. And when Daddy and the dogs went home, us girls stayed for some extra days. We tried to go to the park but it rained.

Ríodhna's first swim
Then I also went for my first swim last Thursday. I like it. It's like a big bath but with lots of other mammies and babies in it too. I wore the same swimsuit Ella used to wear so everyone thought I was a boy too. I think that's very strange.

On Saturday, we left Ella behind and I went on a shopping trip with Mammy and Daddy. I think Ella enjoyed us being away. We left her with Mammo and when we got back, she had Mammo, Jill, Mark, Emma and Jamie all doing when she wanted. It wasn't very interesting shopping. We didn't get any clothes for me. But I think we found some doors for Ella's house - that's what she calls it but I think it belongs to all of us.

As well as a big sister I have some friends already. Peter is two days older than me. And Grace is 6 weeks younger than me. She visited today and we had a good look at each other. We'll have great fun when we're bigger!
